Who am I?
My name is Susan Soliman, my performing name is “Safeena”. I live in Newport, South Wales and bellydance is a very important part of my life.
I have been dancing most of my life...even writing choreography at an early age. I have taught disco, contemporary dance and jazz ballet and have performed in many establishments, which include the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, Turkey and Tunisia. I have choreographed over 20 dances, ranging from Veil dances, to Saiidi stick, to Turkish Village, to Spanish Fusion to Traditional Beledi. I particularly like to dance to upbeat music from Cairo.
I started teaching bellydancing in 2002 and now teach up 3 classes a week in the Cardiff area, and travel around the UK on weekends teaching workshops. I work with local authorities to promote health and fitness through dance, to all age ranges...from school children to senior citizens. I give regular talks and presentations to women's groups such as the Women's Institute and ethnic minority groups. I organise workshops with professional dancers from all over the UK, and dance evenings (called "Hafla's" ) within South Wales.
I have a growing database of bellydance enthusiasts across South Wales and the South West. I am a member of MADN (Mosaic Arabic Dance network) and Dance UK. I have my own travelling bazaar of bellydance costumes and accessories and have my own supplier contacts in Turkey and Egypt .
Details of my classes, events and holidays can be found on this site.
